Our Work

Sankuru Regen has three primary focuses: we research and field test regenerative agricultural methods in the Sankuru context, we develop agricultural systems and training with local farmers, and we improve production for local markets.  The following initiatives are the practical work that we are doing to achieve those ends.

Field Trials

Since 2022 we have been testing regenerative methods in the local context focusing on the local staple which is rice.  We have developed the Kuke-Kete base system for rice farmers to adopt.  Our continued efforts will be in developing year round cropping systems that continue to improve soil and incorporate a diversity of crops.

Compost Campaigns

Compost Campaigns began in 2024  in 6 different communities in the Sankuru.  These campaigns have proven to be and integral part of our outreach and discovery process.  Composting introduces paradigm shifting concepts of how soil works.  It has also been essential to identify central obstacles to understanding and adoption of regenerative systems.

Kuke-Kete

Launched in August of 2025 our training initiative called "Kuke-Kete" (strengthen the ground) was conducted with a test group of farmer families.  Our objective is training farmers through compost production, rice crop establishment, harvest, and establishing a rotational crop.  Integral to this project is the research that is conducted along side the learning process with participating farmers.  Outcomes of this initiative will inform future iterations of our research and core outreach.

Animal Integration

Understanding animal impact on soils is essential to accelerate an effective regenerative system.  Whether manures are used in soil amendments like compost or direct animal impact is used to prepare fields; control and management are essential.  As part of our efforts we are piloting Solar Electric fences with two chieftainships in order to control animals both for impact and to protect fields close to villages.

Market R & D

The Sankuru's economy is struggling.  It is isolated from larger markets and the function of local markets while operating are not well defined.  We will be seeking to quantify local markets and better identify opportunities to add value that will provide the greatest return on investments.   A Key outcome of this initiative is the strategic engagement and coordination with local farmers and entrepreneurs.
